We re-gear many Jeeps, trucks, SUVs and other 4×4 vehicles. Compatibility depends on the axle configuration and available gear sets, so we confirm fitment before recommending a ratio.
After installing larger tires, a Jeep JL or JLU may remain in 7th gear at highway speeds because the factory gear ratio no longer matches the tire diameter. The correct re-gear can restore more normal shift behavior, including access to 8th gear when driving conditions allow.
It can help when larger tires have caused the engine and transmission to work outside their ideal range. Re-gearing may restore efficiency and drivability, but fuel economy also depends on tire weight, vehicle setup, driving habits and how the vehicle is used.
